Understory: A Wilderness Writing Group

Join us in person to wander and write about what grows beneath the trees and along the trails. How does the breeze feel when it scurries across a cheek? Whose birdsongs are heard among the trees? What’s hidden between the rock bed’s bumps or the crinkled surface of a bubbling creek? Answer these questions and more with Understory: A Wilderness Writing Group is an in-person gathering for writers drawn to the wild. This free, nature-based writing group from the University of North Florida builds connections between the written word and natural world. Workshop attendees will explore nature and compose stories which draw parallels between women's experiences and the natural environment around us. Each hour-long session begins with a creative writing prompt and ends with a story found under the trees. Our next workshop takes place at Losco Regional Park on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 from 5-6PM. RSVP via eventbrite or www.bit.ly/understorygroup Don't forget to mark your calendar for our December workshop, which will be held at Tillie K. Fowler Regional Park on Friday, December 4 from 5-6PM.
