Join us as we gather during WMU Homecoming Weekend Onyx Society Annual Breakfast and remember Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Honoring His Legacy Through History, Education, and Community Join us during Western Michigan University’s Homecoming Weekend for a special lecture honoring the life, vision, and lasting legacy of Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Last year, we gathered for the Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Tour, bringing alumni, students, and supporters together to walk through places connected to Dr. Wilson’s history at WMU. This year, we continue that spirit of remembrance and education through a special lecture featuring Jamon Jordan, “The Official Historian of Detroit.” The event will take place as part of the Onyx Society Annual Meeting and Breakfast and will bring together members of the WMU community, alumni, friends, and supporters for a meaningful morning of history, reflection, and connection. Featured Speaker: Jamon Jordan Jamon Jordan, “The Official Historian of Detroit,” is a historian, educator, and storyteller dedicated to bringing history to life and helping communities better understand the people, places, and experiences that shaped them. His lecture will explore history, culture, and the importance of preserving and sharing the stories that have shaped Black communities and American history. Honoring Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. dedicated his life to education and to helping students understand the history and experiences of Black Americans. The Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established in his honor to provide financial assistance to qualified Western Michigan University students with an interest in the history of Black America.
