Advent Retreat with Handel’s Messiah

This Advent prepare for Christmas with the soaring melodies of Handel's Messiah and the Holy Scriptures that inspired it. Advent Retreat with Handel’s Messiah Led by Fr. Timothy Armbruster This Advent, we invite you to prepare for Christmas in a completely new way. We will use the soaring melodies of Handel's Messiah and the Holy Scriptures that inspired it to delve deeply into the Mystery of the Incarnation. Messiah, by George Frideric Handel, is a biblical overview of salvation history. Perhaps the most widely-known classical musical work, it is unique: the entire libretto Scripture quotes. Its vast panorama begins with the hope-filled voices of the prophets promising salvation and ends at the doorway of heaven as a chorus of angels celebrates Christ’s Resurrection. The words of Messiah are also God’s living word; this study will enhance our understanding of God’s saving plan and move us to receive God’s grace. From Friday evening Dec. 4 through noon on Sunday Dec. 6, we will immerse ourselves in scripture, prayer, and one of the greatest musical masterpieces ever written. Suggested offering: $50 The retreat includes two continental breakfasts, Saturday lunch and snacks.
