Toby Summerfield at Grand Avenue Temple

with Christina Silvius and Mike Stover Longtime underground adventurous musician Toby Summerfield is on tour this fall behind his new record, “Bodies of Water” out now Island House Records. Best known for his work with avant-metal supergroup Ex Eye, Summerfield’s new solo record finds him operating in a more peaceful space. Started during the pandemic as a meditation on deep musical friendship and absence “Bodies of Water” showcases Summerfield’s prodigious technique on his multiple instruments in the service of music that is at once active and still. Like the surface of a river. Combining guitar-family instruments with foot-operated synth and talkbox-enhanced vocals to achieve a polyrhythmic, contrapuntal, nearly-ambient space that welcomes listeners to flow, be present and feel along with the emotional arcs of the songs. There are no loops or samples, everything is done live. Joining Toby are Kansas City-based improvisors Christina Silvius and Mike Stover.
