What does it mean to find hope, joy, and connection in a world that doesn't always go according to plan? First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville is excited to welcome Kate Bowler, five-time New York Times bestselling author, award-winning podcast host, and Associate Professor of American Religious History at Duke University, for a special evening of conversation, reflection, and encouragement. Known for her ability to bring humor, honesty, and compassion to life's hardest questions, Kate explores the stories we tell ourselves about success, suffering, faith, and what it means to be human. Following an unexpected Stage IV cancer diagnosis at age 35, her personal journey deeply shaped her understanding of faith, challenging easy answers about suffering and opening new conversations about hope, resilience, and finding meaning in life's uncertainties. Through her bestselling books, including Everything Happens for a Reason (and Other Lies I've Loved), No Cure for Being Human, and Joyful Anyway, as well as her award-winning Everything Happens podcast, Kate has helped millions of people navigate life's uncertainties with greater courage, grace, and hope. Kate's work has received national attention from The Today Show, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and NPR, and her widely acclaimed TED Talk has been viewed more than 10 million times. Through her writing, teaching, and conversations with influential voices such as Anne Lamott, Malcolm Gladwell, and Beth Moore, she has become a leading voice on faith, suffering, and the search for meaning in an imperfect world. At a time when so much seems to divide us, this evening is an invitation to come together around the experiences that unite us. We all know something about disappointment, uncertainty, love, loss, and the search for joy. Kate reminds us that we don't have to have all the answers to find connection and meaning along the way. Whether you're familiar with Kate's work or hearing about her for the first time, we hope you'll be part of this special evening in the heart of Downtown Knoxville.
