POSTPONED - Fireflies After Dark

Presentation & Night Hike. Join Christine Gambino of the LSU AgCenter Department of Entomology for an evening exploring one of Louisiana’s most magical creatures of the night: fireflies! Christine will begin with a presentation introducing the fascinating world of fireflies, their biology, habitats, and diversity, as well as some of the challenges these remarkable insects face. We’ll then head outdoors for a guided night hike through Atelier de la Nature to look for lightning bugs and explore the diversity of fireflies living right here in our landscape. Christine is a naturalist, educator, and researcher whose work bridges conservation and agriculture. Her research interests include restoring neglected habitats for arthropods, particularly fireflies, and developing sustainable approaches to challenges in agricultural landscapes. As an Extension Associate with the LSU AgCenter Department of Entomology, she also develops hands-on environmental and agricultural education programs for high school students. Coming from a long line of Cajun farmers, Christine brings a deep connection to Louisiana’s landscapes, culture, and agricultural heritage to her work. This program is presented in the spirit of this year’s Creatures of the Night theme and offers a chance to experience the nocturnal world firsthand. Bring comfortable walking shoes, insect repellent if desired, and your curiosity.
