The Holidays at Heartwood: Winter Solstice Nature Journaling

Celebrate the longest night of the year by slowing down and tuning into the natural world in this special journaling gathering. Whether you're a seasoned journalist or first-timer, join us for a nature journal gathering to mark the Winter Solstice with Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Mary Patterson and Heartwood Nursery owner Sue Hunter. Date/time: Monday December 21, 10 am - 1 pm What you'll do: We'll meet at the fire pit in the hut in the Heartwood Holly Arboretum. Following group introductions, Sue will share how the Winter Solstice is significant to Holly trees, and Mary will suggest journaling prompts. You'll then have approximately one hour of journaling time. You're free to stay fireside or choose another location on the property. Afterward, we'll re-gather at the Holly hut for group sharing of experience, intention, and/or journal entries. Everyone's welcome to share or to just listen. We'll conclude with hot beverages around the fire pit. What to bring: Dress for the outdoors and the weather, with appropriate shoes, outerwear, and layers. If it's a super cold day, a blanket may be a good option! (In the event an outdoor fire isn't possible, there is an indoor option.) Bring a notebook or sketch book and writing utensil(s). Other suggested supplies: watercolor paints, water brush, color pencils/pens, and portable chair if you have a personal favorite. New to nature journaling? Welcome. Supply kits are available to purchase if needed. Kits include: • Sketch book (not watercolor grade) • Watercolor sheet • Journaling guide from Wild Wonder Organization • Mini watercolor set • Mini color pencils • Multi-color ink pen • No. 2 pencil • Fine tip waterproof black pen • Water brush Refunds: Ticket refund requests must be made at least 5 days before the event Weather cancellation policy: In the event of severe weather, we'll cancel the event early in the morning on the day of the event and tickets will be refunded. For more thoughtful holiday activities, greenery, gifts, and decor, see The Holidays at Heartwood Contact us FAQ: Visiting Heartwood
