Community Tree Planting: Mount Olivet Cemetery

Join Casey Trees and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield as we plant trees at historic Mount Olivet Cemetery! You provide the volunteers, we provide all the necessary tools and supplies to plant the trees. Participants will receive a hands-on training. After learning the tools and techniques, participants will be split up into groups supervised by a trained volunteer Team Leader and begin planting trees throughout the space. Register now! Before the event, we will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site. Who should attend? Anyone! Open to the general public, you do not need any prior experience to join us. REQUIREMENTS Register: Register in advance. Space is limited. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers. Waiver: All volunteers must pre-register and sign a completed volunteer waiver form BEFORE participating in the tree planting event. Arrival: Please arrive on time. Check-in is open from 8:00am to 8:30am. All volunteers must be present for the tool safety demonstration at 8:30am. Youth Volunteers: Youth volunteers may participate with an adult supervisor. Clothes: Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. We recommend long pants and other protections for sun and bugs. Shoes: Close-toed shoes required, boots are preferred over sneakers. Skills: No specific skills or tools required. Each event starts with a tool safety and planting demonstration. Volunteers work alongside experienced Team Leaders and staff. Water: Bring a full water bottle! Additional water will be available if needed. Restrooms: Details to follow. What to expect • 8:00 AM - Check in opens & light breakfast served • 8:30 AM - Mandatory tool safety demo • 9:00 AM - Planting begins, at which time volunteers will be split into planting teams, each lead by a Team Leader. Each team will plant 2-3 trees. Getting There • Parking: Parking is available by driving into the cemetery. More details to follow. • Bike Parking: Bikes can be locked to nearby signs. • Public Transportation: The nearest bus stop is Bladensburg Rd NE & Mt Olivet Rd NE, which serves the C41 bus route.
