Opening Reception

June First Friday Opening Reception Celebrate the opening of two new exhibitions at Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC), featuring Poking Holes and Filling Gaps by Ellarie Haggart and Elan Warren in the Main Gallery and Caught in a Storm by Hunter Silvey in the Snap Space Gallery. Through renovation, restoration, and omission, Ellarie Haggart and Elan Warrenn's exhibition Poking Holes and Filling Gaps considers the ways images change and evolve throughout time. The collective, American subconscious frames a past that parallels our present, or, simply, the past repeats itself in new ways. In both Haggart and Warren’s practice, appropriated and grafted imagery from these pasts— layered, joined, and decollaged in order to consider the present moment. Hunter Silvey's Caught in a Storm is an exhibition of dimensional portraits, photography, painting, and sculptural installations that examines gender, transformation, and the fragile process of becoming through the fictional persona of Sienna Mae. Set within the visual language of the American Midwest, the work explores the tension between inherited expectations of femininity and the possibility of self-definition. Meet the exhibiting artists, explore the galleries, and spend First Friday with KCAC. Whether you regularly visit exhibitions or are stopping in for the first time, everyone is welcome. Free and open to the public.
