Singing in the Spirit: The African and African American Musical Heritage

Spirituals and gospel music are powerful representations of the triumphant spirit, faith, beauty and joy of the African American experience. Spirituals and gospel music are much more than pleasing songs to listen to; they are powerful representations of the triumphant spirit and faith that have defined African-American music and people. Dr. Kathy Bullock takes the audience on a musical journey from West Africa, through the middle passage, to the North American shores where the African-American culture was forged. Through songs, stories and performance, this participatory program lets the audience experience the beauty, joy and power of this music and culture • NOTE: This performance takes place in the First Presbyterian CHAPEL which is accessible through Mill Street entrance. • Parking is available at First Pres lot on Mill Street • Comfortable, yet respectful clothing and shoes are recommended • 80 seats available • Event is FREE but registration is requested • Doors open 30 minutes before performance start time • As always, donations are welcome to keep the Festival going!
