With the Angels, Let Us Sing! Christmas with Wesleyan

Nebraska Wesleyan University’s three choral ensembles lift their angelic voices to sing the Christmas story and to share the joy of the holiday season in NWU’s annual celebration of Christmas with Wesleyan: With the Angels, Let Us Sing!   Audiences will hear a rich variety of choral music sung by NWU's University Choir, Unity Choir, and Gold Standard Singers.  The Crete and York High School Choirs will be featured in the performance as well, making a total of nearly 200 singers in the massed choir.  Compelling works by Kyle Pederson, André Thomas, and Tom Trenney will be featured on the program beside a jazz arrangement of "Go, Tell it on the Mountain" and music from Mexico and China. The audience will be invited to sing along in beloved carols accompanied by orchestra and organ, including "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Silent Night," "Joy to the World," and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." Come to bask in the glow of candlelight as you experience the heavenly music and uplifting message of Christmas with Wesleyan.  NWU's Choir Director, Tom Trenney, shares: "Almost every time an angel appears in the scriptures, they first say, 'Fear not.  Do not be afraid.'   If we live in fear, we will miss the good news that they bring.  The world is chaotic and wild, busy and complicated, and there is plenty to be worried about and afraid of.  Christmas with Wesleyan invites us to set all of that aside, at least for a few blessed moments, so that we can remember to breathe in the good news.  Though music does not cure the problems of the world, it can transform us; it can bring healing and hope to renew us for the journey ahead. We hope Christmas with Wesleyan will truly be a gift to lift the spirits of everyone in the audience and in the choirs."  With the Angels, Let Us Sing!: Christmas with Wesleyan will be offered on Sunday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, located on the NWU Campus.  No tickets are required, and there is no charge for admission. Audiences will have the opportunity to donate to Cedars Youth Services. For more information, please contact Tom Trenney, NWU Director of Choirs, at [email protected]
