Acting Techniques For Improvisers with Hollis Beck

Get ready to level up your improv game with some cool acting tricks from Hollis Beck. “I am Terrified by Group Game”: Spolin, Viewpoints, and Collaborative Staging You’re one of six people on a tiny stage. You are all standing in a line and waiting for your turn to contribute. You KNOW this isn’t how it’s supposed to go – but what’s the alternative? Turn the Group Game from something to dread into an opportunity for collective storytelling. In this course we’ll make full use of the space to show how to build a scene not just using your partner but the distance between you, the environment around you, and the energy between you. By identifying the building blocks of a “scene”, we’ll discover strategies for making your own unique contributions without stealing focus OR feeling left out. Bio Hollis is a multi-disciplinary artist drawing upon her experience in devised theatre-making to turn scripts on their heads and help performers find new, unexpected methods for connecting with their audiences. Most recently she has been featured in several critically-acclaimed anime as an English dub actor, including Wind Breaker and Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, and been pelted with popcorn in the Pocket Sandwich melodramas Herbbits, Wizards, and Borks – Oh My! and Camp Death. She also gets weird regularly at the Dallas Comedy Club as a member of indie team Black Tie Casual and the all-LGBTQ+ comedy group Butt Gay.
