Black Girls In Art Spaces Los Angeles @ David Zwirner

BGIAS Los Angeles, join us for a walkthrough of Roy DeCarava: _the sound i saw_, an exhibition of the late photographer's pioneering series which was first assembled as a handmade artist’s book and later condensed and exhibited at the Studio Museum in Harlem in 1983. Curated by Ebony L. Haynes, this intimate and celebratory body of work juxtaposes photographs of everyday life in New York City—elegiac street corners, deliverymen working, children playing, riders waiting for the train—with images of jazz musicians, highlighting DeCarava’s unwavering exploration of the relationship between the visual and the aural created between the late 1940s and the 1960s.
