Field Day: After Dark

Join Clockshop to learn about the earthly and celestial animals that walk among us. Explore our urban greenways on a guided hike led by environmental educator and wildlife biologist Miguel Ordeñana. Step into close encounters with the wildlife that we cohabitate with as he recalls his experience of discovering famed mountain lion P-22 and his research on native flora and fauna in the Los Angeles area. At the summit on the grounds of the Griffith Park Observatory, Tina Orduno Calderon, culture bearer of Gabrielino Tongva, Chumash, Yoeme, and Chicana descent, will share stories and lead people in songs that shed light on the networks of animals and ancestors that inform the cosmologies of Tovaangar. This hike will make various stops in Griffith Park. Attendees should be comfortable with walking over uneven terrain and in the dark. We recommend bringing a headlamp with a red light setting if you have one at home! Field Day: After Dark Thursday, November 12, 2026 6:00–8:30 PM Griffith Park (exact location will be emailed to guests who have RSVP'd) ABOUT THE SERIES Field Day is a series of all-ages outdoor workshops that invite the public to learn about and engage with urban habitats, wildlife, and waterways in the Los Angeles River Watershed. Clockshop first programmed this series at the Bowtie Project between 2017 and 2018 in collaboration with artists, educators, and California State Parks. ABOUT THE FACILITATORS Miguel Ordeñana, who joined NHMLAC in April 2013, is an environmental educator and wildlife biologist. As a community science manager, Miguel promotes and creates community science projects, and recruits and trains participants. Miguel utilizes his mammal research background by conducting urban mammal research in LA and co-leads NHMLAC’s Southern California Squirrel Survey. Miguel continues to work, locally and internationally, on carnivore and bat research, including a jaguar project in Nicaragua. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Southern California, and an M.S. in Ecology from UC Davis. Tina Orduno Calderon is a culture bearer of Gabrielino Tongva, Chumash, Yoeme, and Chicana decent. She is wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie to many. Tina is a singer, song keeper, traditional dancer, and storyteller who also enjoys creative writing and composing poems and songs. To date, she has composed over two dozen songs in her ancestral languages of Tongvé and Chumash. Tina is thrilled to partner with Clockshop to share Tongva cosmology, stories, and songs.
