Social Enactments in a Microcosm: Psychodynamic Process Group Institute

Experience interpersonal group dynamics firsthand while deepening self-awareness, group therapy skills, and understanding of group process. Interpersonal groups focus on relationships to ourselves, other group members, and the leader. Not only will participation in a group help us as individuals, it allows a shift in roles: for you to have a felt sense of the role of a group member. This felt sense deepens our skills as a group therapist and provides for more skillful navigation of group process and dynamics. Individuals will engage in an interpersonal process group, experience group therapy dynamics, and have an opportunity at the end of the training to have insight into the group leader’s thought process, reasons for her interventions, and explore the leader’s reactions to any ruptures and/or challenges during the group process. Objectives: • Define and identify at least 2 resilience factors and their importance in interpersonal groups. • Assess for rupture and repair in group therapy and the role of the therapist in addressing empathic ruptures. • List 2 benefits of therapist self-disclosure in group. • Identify at least 3 stages of group development. • Describe how sibling relationships appear in group therapy. • Analyze the influence of intersectional identities on group adhesion. This program will be offering 10.75 CEs for those who attend in full. When she started her private practice in 2016, Christina was introduced to group therapy. She has since led support groups, psychoeducational groups, and process groups, earned her Certified Group Psychotherapist designation, and has been a long-time member of a training group. Christina has a practice in East Los Angeles where she works with people to improve their relationships with others and with themselves. She uses writing to better understand themes in her life and authored an article in the GROUP Journal about only children in process groups.
