Full description from organizerShow less
Join artist & art historian, Alisha Rawal as we explore diversity, and the tangible value of remembering knowledge that we sometimes forget. Since the beginning of human history, we have been trying to figure out our place in the universe. We’ve been asking questions like why is there something instead of nothing? What is real? Are we in control of our lives? How do we live a good life? Every discipline has a different way to approach answering these questions from science and math to religion, philosophy, and art. Every culture has taken a stab and come to their own conclusions to help their society function. Despite all this, 100,000 years later, we still haven’t found the answer. So what if we work together? What if we combine knowledge from different disciplines, different cultures and even different eras in time? In this talk, we’ll explore the relationship between Aztec metaphysics (the branch of philosophy, that studies these questions) and modern physics (from quantum physics to relativity and even strength theory). This is a case for diversity, and the tangible value of remembering knowledge that we sometimes forget. Alisha is an artist, art historian, and computer scientist from Los Angeles, CA. She got her degree in art history and computer science from the University of Texas at Austin, and has since been exploring the intersection of the sciences and the arts. She is passionate about all things art - making it, studying it, teaching it, and finding it in the ground (archaeology). 6:30pm. Doors open. 7pm. Lecture (Light refreshments will be served). 8:00 Q&A Walk-in's welcome if room allows. Please RSVP to reserve a seat. *Limited seating available on a first come basis. Additional standing room available. *No Parking on-site. Limited street parking. Ride share encouraged.
