It refers to the ones actors wore in ancient Greek dramas. Each mask had a mouth built into it, shaped so the actor's voice could travel through while it amplifies it to reach the back of the room. Persona, literally, means “to sound through”… Osho talks about Persona from a different perspective. Personality or person, comes from the same word. What's underneath, he calls essence. Your naked and most true self, before the world asked you to wear anything at all… On Halloween we get to wear masks, being "someone else" for a day, but I can't help but wonder, maybe, just like the "persona", our costume amplifies something inside of us, a true part of what we really are? How does your costume (or past costumes) reflect something inside of you? What persona do you usually show the world? What parts of you stay hidden? On Thursday, October 29th, ITAI 🎷 throws our Halloween Party alongside the colorful, fantastical Mystical Joyride for a costume-clad "Swanning" experience - masks, personas, and full-blown alter egos welcome. We call it "Sound Connections" as in - connection with others, with self, and with something bigger than all of us... Come in costume, come as your persona, and step into the Swan Lake Circle. ✨ About the musicians: ✨ Mystical Joyride 🛸🎤🔮💚 Mystical Joyride is a genre-fluid, psychedelic world-pop band - where the spiritual meets the ratchet. They turn rooms into joyful choirs with live instruments, heavy rhythm, and sing-along hooks; ecstatic, playful, and deeply communal. ✨ ITAI 🎷🎹 Saxophonist and live-electronic artist; founder of The Residency. We like to be present with each other therefore we request it being a "No Phone Zone" (we will record the sessions and take some snippets which will be shared on the Sound Connections Patreon channel). For similar reasons, we would love to keep the dance floor a "No Shoes on the dance floor". 💬 You are part of the experience, please dance, scream, sing as long as you respect other people's space and experience as well <3 ***If you want to add an instrument please coordinate in advance since the curation of the night is very intentional. *** All Sets are being filmed and recorded, pay attention to the "dark areas" if you don't want to be on camera! 🤫 Let's keep deep conversations off the dancing areas... It's not meant to be a "no talking" environment and most people are trying to connect with the music in a non-verbal way. A great place for deeper conversations is the Tea Lounge (: The Tea Lounge 🍵 The Tea Lounge is an inseparable part of The Residency's cozy season. Tea Lounge opens at 8pm, please join us for a cup of tea, games and a hang. The Story of The Residency - Sound Connections: From ITAI: "After years of touring the world and playing on the biggest stages I could imagine, I started looking for something deeper. Indeed there is real magic in playing in front of big crowds, yet I was craving something, an ongoing connection, to root into my community, and for that, I knew I needed a consistent local experience, which is how The Residency was born. This new season of The Residency is about deepening our connection, as we grow as individuals and as a community. If the artists are the first swans, creating the spark together, this season is about the audience swanning as well, reflecting back at each other, and at the artists, in a beautiful swan lake of mirroring. Every Thursday, we'll feature one very special guest artist, sitting across from me as we create the soundtrack for the night from scratch. What is Swanning? Like two swans facing each other in a moment of deep connection, this allows us to share and respond, creating something raw, alive, and unrepeatable. In this format, the audience surrounds the face-to-face artists which forms a circle that makes everyone part of the experience. Step into the circle (: The Zula Den: The Zula Den is a subsidiary of the non-profit Zula Project which is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization.
