AI & the Creative Career: Free ZES Workshop with Jessica Shraybman

Take a midday break to explore AI, creative careers, and protecting your work with arts and entertainment attorney Jessica Shraybman. Are you an artist or creative with questions about AI, ownership, contracts, or protecting your work? Take a midday break and join Zero Empty Spaces at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) for a free workshop with arts and entertainment attorney Jessica Shraybman of Shraybman Law. Building on our Art & Law workshop at Gulfstream Park, this conversation explores how AI is changing the way artists and creative entrepreneurs work, promote themselves, and manage their businesses. Through practical examples and audience Q&A, we’ll discuss opportunities, potential pitfalls, and the questions to ask when protecting your creativity and building a sustainable career. Topics we’ll explore: • AI beyond making art: Using tools to support research, marketing, proposals, and everyday business tasks, while understanding where human judgment matters. • Ownership, copyright, and permissions: Questions surrounding original and AI-assisted work, reference materials, and what happens when you upload your work to a platform. • Protecting your work and identity: Recognizing unauthorized copying, impersonation, misleading attribution, and misuse of your voice or likeness. • Contracts and creative income: What to watch for in commissions, licensing, collaborations, and agreements involving AI. • Practical next steps: Documenting your creative process, asking better questions, and knowing when to seek professional support. Whether you’re already experimenting with AI or simply trying to understand what it means for your creative future, bring your questions and join the conversation. This free event is part of Zero Empty Spaces’ ongoing workshop series supporting the professional and career development of artists and creatives. Artists, designers, photographers, makers, freelancers, and creative business owners are welcome. Make a morning of it: This workshop follows CreativeZen Talks, our mini TED Talk-style series held the second Friday morning of each month from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. Come early for CreativeZen, or if you’re already joining us that morning, stay for the workshop.
