Miami is often introduced through its beaches, nightlife, luxury, tourism, and the destinations that attract the world to our city. But there is another Miami — one with its own history, neighborhoods, traditions, gathering places, sounds, style, language, relationships, and creative energy. This exhibition is an opportunity to document, interpret, and celebrate the many ways Black life exists throughout South Florida. We are interested in the familiar and the overlooked. The historic and the everyday. The people, places, moments, memories, and experiences that may not always make it into the official picture of Miami, but are deeply connected to its identity.
