ask me to remember: Preservation in the Face of Climate Change

What does it mean to remember with a place? How do we work within our environments to preserve the histories and stories that make them meaningful… especially in places experiencing heightened climate impact? In this session, we’ll expand our conversation around archiving and preservation by considering what it means to sustain memory within a changing environment. Building upon the digital and physical practices we’ve explored thus far, we’ll look at preservation as an ongoing, place-based practice; one that responds to the conditions, histories, and futures of New Orleans. Rather than thinking of preservation as simply keeping things intact, we’ll approach it as a practice of remembering, adapting, and working with our environment. Participants will have the opportunity to bring personal materials into the conversation and begin thinking about how their own archives can reflect the places they come from and the environments they inhabit. Archiving kits to support the continued exploration of physical preservation will be available for participants and refreshers on the digital concepts we explored will be covered. Questions?
