Continuous Learning to Advance Health: Clinical Preparedness for Older Adults During Adverse Weather

Preparing for extreme heat, wildfires, hurricanes, and flooding is a frontline clinical necessity. Now in its 7th installment, this conference series is organized by the Mount Sinai Institute for Exposomic Research with support from ConduITS, the Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program for the Mount Sinai Health System. This year marks a critical milestone as our first iteration organized in partnership with the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine, exclusively dedicated to addressing the clinical care gaps for a highly vulnerable patient population: older adults. GOALS Identify Clinical Vulnerabilities: Assess physiological risks, frailty factors, and medical device dependencies that uniquely endanger older adults during extreme weather and power outages.Increase Clinical Readiness: Integrate extreme weather planning and preparedness directly into routine care workflows in primary and specialty care. Manage Acute & Systemic Crisis Responses: Formulate clinical strategies for weather-triggered cardiovascular and respiratory events while leveraging public health communications and emergency response systems to coordinate patient care.CME credits for this session are currently pending approval.
