Braided Narratives, Shared Futures: Building Cross-Movement Solidarity Beyond the Climate Movement

During NYC Climate Week, BLIS Collective invites narrative strategists, funders, movement leaders, and climate practitioners into a participatory workshop exploring what we are learning about the role of narrative and solidarity infrastructure in building stronger relationships across transformative social movements. Through facilitated reflection and storytelling, we’ll engage questions of land, sovereignty, extraction, racialization, wealth, stewardship, and repair. Drawing from BLIS Collective’s research paper, What Is Narrative and Solidarity Infrastructure-and Why Are We Building It?, we’ll share our braided narratives model, informed by our approach to Land Back and Reparations storytelling. Together, we’ll examine what it takes to build narrative and solidarity infrastructure that can sustain cross-movement work over time, and what these learnings might offer the climate justice space. This workshop is both for people who see themselves squarely in the climate movement and for people whose political home may sit outside of it. Our goal is to begin naming the approaches, the gaps, and where capital is needed to build solidarity and narrative alignment across and beyond the climate movement.
