Climate Education in Action: Realizing New York's Climate Requirement

Join us for an evening at the American Museum of Natural History during Climate Week NYC, co-hosted by SubjectToClimate, the Climate & Resilience Education Taskforce (CRETF), and New York City Public Schools Office of Energy and Sustainability, the Climate Mental Health Network (CMHN), and the Yale Program of Climate Change Communication (YPCCC). This year’s event will feature a keynote from environmental educator Suzie Hicks and an interactive presentation by ecologist Carolyn Hall, as well as teacher presentations on bringing climate education into the classroom. The evening will conclude with a networking reception, offering attendees the chance to connect with fellow educators and supporting organizations in the climate education space. Guests are invited to arrive early to see the Museum’s climate-themed activations, including the Climate Learning Lab, designed for ages 8 and up, and a dynamic media wall about climate change in the Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth! Climate & Resilience Education Task Force is dedicated to advancing climate education and professional learning opportunities in New York's P-12 School. SubjectToClimate is a free platform with teacher-designed lesson plans, curated resources, and professional development opportunities to enable all K-12 educators to easily integrate climate change into what they already teach. Climate Mental Health Network is a collective of dedicated community advocates focused on fostering mental well-being by reshaping our national dialogue—and actions—about the emotional impacts of climate change. The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication is a research center at the Yale School of the Environment. They conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them. They also engage the public in climate change science and solutions, in partnership with governments, media organizations, companies, and civil society, and with a daily, national radio program, Yale Climate Connections. New York City Public Schools Office of Energy and Sustainability is bringing climate action to their classrooms, buildings, and operations, aiming to embed sustainability in all aspects of the organization.
