DIY Slimy Creatures: an artist talk & workshop

Learn how special effects were made in upcoming sci-fi film Spoon-Fed by Jaime Sunwoo and make your own mini monster with silicone and foam. At this artist talk and hands-on workshop, go behind the scenes of Spoon-Fed, an upcoming sci-fi short film by NYC Resistor member Jaime Sunwoo, and discover how its creatures and special effects were brought to life. Handle original puppets and masks from the film, watch behind-the-scenes footage, and learn how creatures are developed from concept to execution. Then, just in time for spooky season, make your own mini monster using silicone and foam in this beginner-friendly workshop. All materials included, no experience necessary. About the Artist: Jaime Sunwoo (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist from New York City working in film, art, and animation. Her animated short documentary Equality Tea was featured in Vogue and Whetstone Magazine. Her film Handwritten premiered at Lincoln Center for New York Asian Film Festival and is streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Fantastic New Worlds: A Handmade Puppet Dreams Collection. Her New York Times featured production Specially Processed American Me received support from BRIClab, NYC Women's Fund, The Jim Henson Foundation, Queens Council on the Arts, Asian Women Giving Circle, Brooklyn Arts Fund, and The Laundromat Project. Her short film Ommatidia, co-created with neuroscientist Sromana Mukherjee at NYU's Desplan Lab, premiered at the Science New Wave Festival and is streaming on Labocine.
