From Practice to Performance: Improv Level 2 (Wednesdays in Jan 2027)

You know the basics. Now it’s time to start using them. Jersey Creative Lab’s six-week Level 2 workshop is designed for adults who have completed at least 12 hours of improv training and are ready to go deeper, both on and off stage. This is where things start to click. You’ll work with the same group each week, giving you time to get comfortable, build trust, and meaningfully improve your scene work over time. Instead of just learning concepts, you’ll start applying them i.e. making faster decisions, taking stronger initiations, and building deeper, more connected scenes. Over six weeks, you’ll: • Strengthen your scene work and make clearer, faster decisions • Be heard and own the room • Make bold choices without second-guessing • Build more connected scenes with your scene partners • Stay present and adaptable when things don’t go as planned • Develop real ensemble chemistry within a consistent group As the weeks go on, you’ll start to see how the pieces fit together and feel more comfortable being seen, taking risks, and stepping into the unknown. The workshop ends with a live Armando-style improv showcase for friends and family to apply what you’ve been working on in front of a live audience. You’ll also become part of a small but growing improv community here in Hoboken and Jersey City, with opportunities to keep practicing and performing without having to go into the city. About the Instructor This workshop is led by Nick Carrillo, an actor and improv comedy instructor who has been teaching and performing improv, sketch, and theater throughout New York City for several years. Nick has trained/performed/taught with UCB, The PIT, and The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, and was an original cast member of the Off-Broadway hit Puffs; Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. In addition to his stage work, Nick has appeared in commercials and has been featured on NBC, VH1, Comedy Central, and truTV. He also works with Marvel, hosting digital video content and appearing on The Official Marvel Podcast. As an instructor, Nick focuses on creating a supportive, low-pressure environment where students can have fun, take risks, and build confidence while learning the fundamentals of improv comedy. Early registrants will also get heavily-discounted access to select jams and drop-ins. Capacity: Limited to 16 participants Looking Ahead For those who want to continue, we’ll be offering advanced workshops focused on deeper scene work and ensemble development that will eventually qualify you to be part of our house team. These opportunities will be shared first with current students. Policies & Notes Enrollment is limited and advance registration is required. If minimum enrollment is not met, the workshop may be canceled or rescheduled and all enrolled students will have the option of receiving a full refund. Refunds are available up to 30 days before the first session, minus a $25 administrative fee. After that, refunds are not available. Because this workshop builds toward a live ensemble performance, students must attend at least 4 of the 6 classes to participate in the grad show. Students are also strongly encouraged to attend at least 2 of the final 3 classes, when grad show preparation will become a larger focus. If a student misses more than 20 minutes of active class time, that session will count as an absence. Students who expect to be consistently late, leave early, or miss more than two classes should contact us in advance. We may take occasional photos during class, and the grad show will be recorded. Photos and/or video clips from classes and the grad show may be used for Jersey Creative Lab promotional purposes.
