Come learn the basics of food writing to launch your career or hone your hobby! Whether you're brand new to journalism and are trying to launch a career, or just have an interest in food writing as a hobby, this is the class for you. We will cover: • How to develop a story idea • The different types of food features to pitch • How to pitch: what to say, how to position yourself, drafting, emailing, protocol and more • Who are the key PR folks to know • Who to pitch (and when to follow up, etc) • How to network and build your platform • Plus, an "Ask Me Anything" session at closing! This class will be led by Andrea Strong. Known for her pioneering food blog, The Strong Buzz, Andrea covers restaurants, chefs, trends, and big picture stories about the intersection of food, business, policy, and the law for publications such as Fast Company, Eater, The New York Times, Food & Wine, New York Magazine, and more.
