Just Dinner is Studio Bumi's communal dining series, rooted in commensality: the simple, universal practice of eating together at one table. Each dinner follows a guided, repeatable format built around shared plates, thoughtful pacing, and intentional moments of connection. About Makai Brown I’m Makai Brown, a chef from Chicago’s South Side, and I’ve been cooking professionally for over 10 years and co-founded a company called Laroot World. Southern food and Sunday dinners are a big part of why I started, especially the way a family-style meal brings people together. After years of running New York City kitchens and exploring comfort foods from around the world, I’ve been revisiting the Southern food I love. I’ve been to many of Studio Bumi’s communal dinners and worked with Chef Otis on his open-fire dinner, so I’m looking forward to sharing a Southern dinner of my own at the studio. For this reason, all sales are final and we do not offer cancellations or refunds. If something comes up, you're welcome to either transfer your ticket to a friend or move it to a future dinner date (subject to availabilities), no later than 72 hours before the event—we’re happy to help coordinate either option. If Just Dinner is canceled or rescheduled by us, guests will receive a full refund or a transfer option. For transfers, email [email protected] with the new attendee’s details.
