From ancient pigments ground by hand to the sleek palettes of modern branding, we’ll trace how color has been used to signal power, politics, identity, and belief—and how it continues to shape culture and storytelling today. You’ll also dive into the science of perception: how your eyes and brain work together (and sometimes against you), why colors can appear different depending on context, and how these illusions are leveraged in film, advertising, and design. Mars is a U.S.-based colorist and post-workflow specialist born in Brooklyn and trained in Cinema and Communications at Northeastern University. She honed her craft in New York and Los Angeles post houses, contributed to features like Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, graded shorts and music videos for artists including Tegan & Sara, Peaches, FKJ, Buddy, and Bebe Huxley, developed an Intro to Color Grading curriculum for Loyola Marymount University, and worked as a Colorist and QA Engineer at Blackmagic Design. Now at Secret Weapons Studio in Los Angeles, she collaborates with clients worldwide.
