Lost Wax Casting: Silver Pendant Workshop

During this 3.5 hour workshop, Katherine Wu will review the basic principles of creating a pendant using the lost wax casting method. Guests will learn how to carve their own designs into jewelers wax using a variety of tools and make their own unique pendant design, which will be finished with an included 18" sterling silver chain. At the end of our time together, you can choose whether to get your pendant cast in sterling silver. If so, your pendant will be professionally cast and polished, and once paid, you will receive the final silver version of the your pendant secured to an 18 inch silver chain in 5-6 weeks by mail. This ticket covers the cost of the workshop including 3.5 hours of instruction, access to tools, your wax model, and an 18 inch silver chain. Due to the unique weight of each pendant and the daily changing cost of silver all guests will receive an estimated final cost (within a calculated range), and be invoiced separately for the silver cost of the final product if choosing to cast. About the Artist Katherine Wu is a Philadelphia-based artist and silversmith. She is a graduate of New York's jewelry trade school Studio Jewelers and specializes in the art of lost wax casting. Her designs draw inspiration from the everyday beauty around us - whether that's the slow path of a raindrop down a window or the intricate cross-section of a lotus root slice. Each piece is thoughtfully crafted to celebrate simplicity, the charm of imperfection, and the stories that shape us. She has a long list of hobbies, including but not limited to: knitting, hiking, and foraging for morels. That being said, this workshop is beginner friendly, fun, and no prior experience is necessary! We will require a signed waiver to participate. Getting Here The venue is a ~hidden~ art studio located at 20 Grand ave in brooklyn on the 6th floor of a commercial building! When you arrive, buzz #604, push to open and take the elevator up to 6 (push the elevator button until it turns red.!!) Take a right out of the elevator, and a left at the end of the hallway.
