My First Bitcoin: Education Is Freedom

Join My First Bitcoin at PubKey for an evening exploring how grassroots Bitcoin education is growing into a global movement for freedom, opportunity, and self-sovereignty. At the heart of the evening is the exclusive premiere of our new documentary, filmed across Indonesia in August 2026. No one has seen the film before. The documentary follows our journey from Jakarta to Bandung, Surabaya, and finally Bali, capturing the different Bitcoin communities we encountered along the way and the stories of the people building them. We traveled together with Dimas, the leader of Bitcoin Indonesia, meeting local educators, community leaders, and Bitcoiners to understand what adoption looks like on the ground across one of the world’s most diverse countries. Through their stories, the film explores how grassroots, open-source education is helping people better understand money, Bitcoin, and their own financial agency — and how very different local communities are turning that knowledge into action. Following the screening, My First Bitcoin founder John Dennehy, members of the organization, and special guests will share the story behind My First Bitcoin, how the movement has grown from its roots in El Salvador into a global network of independent educators and communities, and why education sits at the heart of meaningful Bitcoin adoption. We’ll discuss the connection between Bitcoin, education, freedom, and self-sovereignty — and what it takes to build a movement that empowers people to think independently, take greater ownership of their financial lives, and bring that knowledge back to their own communities.
