Responsible AI & Safe Digital Spaces for Children

Artificial intelligence is reshaping both the risks children face online and the tools available to protect them. As AI-enabled harms evolve, child protection organisations and frontline networks must explore how technology can be used responsibly to strengthen prevention, case management, legal response, and survivor support. This UNGA 81 side event will bring together leaders from child protection networks, technology companies, AI safety organisations, funders, policymakers, UN entities, and frontline practitioners to examine what it takes to build responsible AI capacity within child protection ecosystems. Drawing on insights from a Phase 1 consultation across the JRC network of more than 250 organisations across India, Nepal, Kenya, and the United States, the conversation will move beyond viewing AI only as a risk and explore practical pathways for responsible adoption. The discussion will highlight frontline realities, emerging challenges, and opportunities to ensure AI strengthens, not undermines, child safety and rights. The session will create space for evidence-based dialogue, cross-sector collaboration, and actionable pathways that connect global AI governance conversations with the realities of organisations working to protect children every day.Speakers include:1.
