Seeding the Science: A Playwriting Workshop with Kate Douglas Hosted by Cultivate Theatre Project Join us for a one-day workshop exploring environmental themes, questions, and research in playwriting. The afternoon opens with a talk by Kate Douglas on approaches to environmental writing, followed by live readings and feedback sessions with selected participant playwrights. This is a unique chance to see three environmentally-engaged plays read aloud and hear Kate's process as she guides each playwright toward what comes next. Whether you're a theatre artist, a science-minded audience member, or simply curious how environmental stories move from the page to stage, you'll leave with a firsthand look at new work in development. All are welcome to attend as observers - no professional playwriting experience required. Given the workshop's content, we suggest attendees be 16 or older. Are you a playwright interested in participating in a live feedback session? Three playwrights will be selected to have an excerpt of their work read aloud by actors and receive focused feedback from Kate in a supportive workshop setting. Writers at different stages of their careers, working across a wide range of approaches to environmental writing, are encouraged to apply. To apply, submit your work and tell us a bit about yourself here by September 22nd at 11:59pm EST. Selected playwrights will be asked to purchase a sliding-scale participation ticket ($150–200). Note: A limited number of observer tickets are being held until participant selections are finalized. If you plan to apply as a participant, we recommend applying before purchasing an observer ticket.
