Blackout Poetry Workshop & Reading

Join poet Deborah Strozier at the Granville Center for the Arts for a hands-on introduction to blackout poetry. Join poet Deborah Strozier at the Granville Center for the Arts for a hands-on introduction to blackout poetry. Start with a page from a recycled book and choose the words you want to keep. Then use a marker to cover most of the remaining text. The words left visible become your poem, and the page becomes a piece of visual art. Deborah will share examples and guide you as you create your own blackout poems. All ages are welcome, and no poetry or art experience is needed. We’ll provide the markers and recycled books, generously donated by Readers Garden Bookstore. We’ll finish with an optional open mic poetry reading, where anyone who wants to can share their new blackout poem with the group. The workshop is free and open to all! Please register on Eventbrite so we know you’re coming and can have enough supplies ready for everyone. About Deborah: Deborah Chow Strozier is a Chinese American poet whose work has appeared in numerous literary journals.
