Emotional Intelligence & De-escalation

Emotional intelligence helps you recognize and regulate your own emotions while navigating high-stress environments. You'll learn the importance of emotional intelligence for delivering services that are strength-based, trauma-informed, and aimed at building trust and rapport. You'll also examine how emotional regulation, empathy, and self-awareness directly impact de-escalation attempts, engagement, and decision-making and explore how these factors influence our relationship with program participants, other staff, and leadership. Effective De-escalation in Homeless & Housing Services Conflict is inevitable. Having those conflicts continue to escalate is not. In homeless and housing services, how we handle conflict shapes housing outcomes, relationships, and whether participants feel safe enough to stay engaged. Built for staff working in environments filled with trauma, scarcity, and unmet needs, the training will cover how conflict can escalate, how to stay trauma-informed without abandoning accountability, and what the research says actually works under the pressures of real life. Participants will leave with practical strategies to de-escalate, validate, and self-regulate to keep the working relationship intact.
