Stewardship Sunday: Nissequogue Greenhouse Director's Path/Assorted Tasks

Join us this Sunday at 9:30am in the Nissequogue Greenhouse as we help inside and out with invasive plants, moving materials, and more! Join us this Sunday as we help the Greenhouse and Nursery staff with clearing out invasives along the Director's Path and/or helping with moving materials indoors. This program is availabe for all ages with adult supervision over the age of 14. Meeting Time: 9:30am to 12:00pm Parking Instructions: Take Kings Park Blvd all the way down or St.Johnlands Road until the two roads meet. At the intersection there should be two roads that lead into the park: One with an entrance booth and another to the right of the booth with a barricade. Go around the barricade and make take the first right you reach which will lead you straight to the Greenhouse. there will be a volunteer A-frame at the junction so if you pass it you have gone too far! You can park either in front of the greenhouse or to the right near the storage container. Google Map Link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/F8R2vRy6yi54JcUh6 Backround Information: The Nissequogue Greenhouse is an historic structure that was once a part of the Kings Park Psychiatric Center. It was originally built in the1930s as a way to provide both horticulture therapy to their patients and help keep the center self-sufficient. The patients would start their vegetable seeds in the greenhouse which would be grown to feed the population of the center. Today, it has been repurposed to propagate native and ornamental plants across different NYS parks throughout Long Island. The greenhouse staff relies on volunteers to help with operations and keep the nursery/surrounding grounds free of invasive plants.
