Full description from organizer

Rudy Gerson and Jonathan González present an ongoing movement and filmmaking practice developed through black-and-white 16mm film. Doors at 6:30pm Presented as part of An Endless Meeting: Collective Process, Artistic Labor, and the Politics of Working Together Rudy Gerson and Jonathan González present an ongoing movement and filmmaking practice developed through black-and-white 16mm film. Working together across a series of reels, the artists move back and forth between performing before the camera and operating it, exchanging these positions without a regularized interval. One person might remain behind the camera while the other moves within its frame before, at an undetermined moment, the relation shifts. With each exchange, the duration of looking and being looked at changes. Perspective, proximity, rhythm, and tonality accumulate differently from reel to reel, while operating the camera becomes a movement practice alongside performing for it. The camera establishes a relation between two bodies whose roles remain unfixed: performer and operator, subject and witness, each position continually giving way to the other. Presented as part of An Endless Meeting, the 16mm films are activated on October 18th through analog projection and onsite performance. The activation carries the practice into the gallery, where the shifting relations between performer and operator extend toward projection, image, and witness. Following the activation, the film remains on view for the duration of the exhibition. About the Artists Jonathan González: Jonathan González is an artist, choreographer, and writer whose work considers the choreographic as a means of approaching site, embodiment, and collective life. His work has been presented by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, The Kitchen, and other institutions. González is a 2025 Pew Fellow and 2024 Herb Alpert Award recipient, and is the author of Ways to Move (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2025). He is Assistant Professor of Dance at Hunter College, CUNY. Rudy Gerson: Rudy Gerson is an artist, filmmaker, and educator working with film, sculpture, and performance, dwelling in the repetitions and inheritances of religion, politics, and sexuality, uneasily. He has shown work at Mono No Aware (NYC), Commonweal (Philadelphia), Atelier Gallery (Philadelphia), and Whammy! (Los Angeles). He holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches at the University of Pennsylvania and Brooklyn College. About An Endless Meeting An Endless Meeting: Collective Process, Artistic Labor, and the Politics of Working Together is a multi-pronged project taking place this fall at Vox Populi that activates collective process as subject, form, and method. Spanning exhibitions, a curatorial residency, public programs, and a print publication, the project explores the politics of collectivity, inviting broad publics to reflect on their own experiences of collaboration. An Endless Meeting will be presented as part of Collective Futures, a citywide initiative bringing together artist-run and community-based organizations to examine collective cultural production. An Endless Meeting: Collective Process, Artistic Labor, and the Politics of Working Together has been supported by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. About The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage is a multidisciplinary grantmaker and hub for knowledge-sharing, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts, and dedicated to fostering a vibrant cultural community in Greater Philadelphia.
