The Saami Khayal Apprenticeship - Student Showcase

Five weeks of Khayal training with master Ustaads, culminating in a live vocal showcase in Philadelphia. $40/ticket. Join us for an evening of live Khayal performance as students of The Saami Khayal Apprenticeship take the stage for the very first time. Over five weeks, a small cohort of apprentices trained one-on-one and in small groups with the Saami Ustaads - master practitioners of Khayal, one of Hindustani classical music's oldest vocal traditions. Across the residency, they worked on voice culture fundamentals: breath, pitch and note recognition, deep listening, and the microtonal ornamentation that defines a Raag in its original form. This showcase is the culmination of that work - apprentices performing what they've built, alongside their teachers, in front of the community that made the residency possible.
