You Don't Need A Smartphone: August Lamm 2026 Book Tour

Join us for a night of reading, conversation, and music to celebrate the launch of August Lamm's new book, You Don't Need A Smartphone, a guide to getting your life back. Who are you without your smartphone? At this rate, you'll never find out. In just two decades, the smartphone has gone from fiction to luxury to necessity. August Lamm's new book, You Don't Need a Smartphone makes a radical and discomfiting claim: that we can still choose to live without it, and furthermore, that we may soon lose the right to choose. Other books treat the symptoms of screen addiction with self-control and wellness hacks. They demonstrate how to live with the smartphone. This is the first book to demonstrate how to live without it. Part-manifesto, part-memoir, part-guidebook, You Don't Need a Smartphone provides everything you need to reclaim your life from the tyranny of screens. Lamm will be reading and discussing the book. She will also perform music with her duo, Lamm & Henley. August Lamm is a writer, visual artist, and anti-tech activist. She is the author of an art book, Crosshatching in Pen & Ink, and a forthcoming novel. She has also written for The New York Times, The Guardian, The Free Press, and was the recipient of a 2024 MacDowell fellowship.
