Flip a Coin - Into a Ring! with Emma Clement

Turn a silver quarter into a wearable band ring! 3-Hour Workshop Date: Thursday, December 17th, 2026 Time: 6pm-9pm Description: Bring in your own quarter to turn into your very own custom ring! In this 3-hour workshop, students will learn basic metalsmithing skills including annealing, doming, hammering and planishing, ring sizing, and polishing. No prior experience necessary, just bring in a coin of choice, and your instructor will guide you through the process of making a band ring! Coin Considerations: Time to dig through your coin jars! You are able to use any coin for this process. US Quarters dated 1964 and earlier and composed of 90% silver and are generally skin safe for wear. Quarters dated after 1964 can still be used to make a ring, however, they have a higher nickel content and should be worn in caution by anyone who has sensitive skin allergies. Your instructor will show you how to properly seal any non-silver coins for safe wearing. Quarters can be formed to fit a size range of about 7.5-11, you are welcome to bring in any other coin as well to experiment with! Size capabilities depend on diameter of the coin. Each student will leave with at least one completed band ring made from a coin! Tuition: $65 + $15 studio materials fee Materials: All studio materials are included. We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to offset some of the financial burden of attending a class. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops. Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks. About the Artist Emma grew up outside of Annapolis, Maryland, and studied engineering at Penn State. After moving to Pittsburgh to attend graduate school at Carnegie Mellon, she was a production metalsmith and workshop instructor at Studebaker Metals for six years. She focuses on combining both high and low craft practices, working in mediums such as metal, glass, and fiber, and also teaches classes at Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media.
