Crochet Lace Making

Learn the basics of traditional Irish crochet lacemaking. In this 2-hour workshop, we will cover a brief history of Irish crochet lace, crochet basics, and then learn how to make a three-dimensional Irish rose motif - a fundamental design in the tradition. Size 10 crochet thread will be provided along with a fine, but beginner’s size, crochet hook. Previous crochet experience is not required. Please be aware of our youth policy. About the instructor: Both of Grey Smith Louisos’s great-grandmothers were prolific crochet lacemakers - one from Ireland and one from Greece - and they had the great pleasure of growing up around the beautiful work that was passed down to them. Grey has been making crochet and needle lace with inherited materials for the past decade. They still consider themself to be a student of this tradition and are deeply honored by the opportunity.
