Fall Fridays: Sea Level Rise and Maine's Seafood Systems

A walk and talk on Portland's waterfront exploring flood and sea level rise impacts to seafood systems with Portland Lobster Company. This event is part of the Fall Fridays Coastal Stakeholders series, a set of walk-and-talks around Portland and southern Maine. Join GMRI’s Coastal Flooding Community Science Project and a series of local perspectives for discussions of the unique impacts of sea level rise on various coastal stakeholders and the ongoing work to build resilience along our coasts. As water levels rise due to climate change, seafood systems, dependent on lots of coastal infrastructure, are forced to adapt. From bait sheds to water access points to waterfront restaurants, the many pieces and parts of our seafood systems are on the front lines of rising seas and coastal flooding impacts. Join us along Portland’s working waterfront for a discussion with the owner of Portland Lobster Company about how his business and the seafood supply chain are experiencing and responding to sea level rise, and then learn how you can contribute coastal flooding impact data to GMRI’s community science project to bolster our ability to understand rising seas and plan for a resilient future in Maine communities. Registration for this event is encouraged but not required.
