Time Zones in Concert!

An adventurous fusion of Balkan, Brazilian, Turkish, and Greek traditions, original jazz, and classic compositions in Scarborough Sept 20th! SCARBOROUGH, ME — September 2026 — Blue Point Congregational Church is thrilled to announce a special live performance featuring Time Zones on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 4:00 PM. Known for their boundary-defying soundscapes, this virtuosic trio offers audiences an eclectic musical journey spanning global traditions and iconic compositions. Time Zones brings together an unexpected array of influences, throwing music from Balkan, Brazilian, Turkish, and Greek traditions into a vibrant stew alongside original jazz and compositions by Thelonious Monk, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, and Stephen Foster. The trio features three distinguished New England musicians, each bringing decades of international performance and teaching experience: • Gary Wittner (7-String Guitar & Vocals): A faculty member at the University of Southern Maine since the 1990s, Wittner has released seven CDs as a leader and performed on five continents. He has officially represented the United States internationally as a Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador, U.S. Embassy Outreach Artist, and Fulbright Specialist. • Eric LaPerna (Hand Percussion): A music faculty member at Bowdoin College and director of the Maine Middle Eastern Orchestra, LaPerna is featured on over 30 albums and performs regularly with many of New England’s most celebrated musicians. • Aaron Henry (Clarinet & Saxophone): A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Henry is a member of the Grammy-nominated What’s Next? Orchestra led by Mehmet Ali Sanlikol. He is currently an active performing, recording, and teaching artist across Greater Portland, Southern Maine, and beyond.
