Dumplings & Clay: A Hands On Workshop

Join us for a hands-on experience of cooking, creating, and dining at Sandy River Studio, in collaboration with Lani Chan, founder of Hei Ma—a small-batch sauce brand rooted in Chinese culinary tradition and peak-season produce. We’ll begin in the “kitchen” with Lani, learning the art of making dumplings entirely from scratch. Together, you’ll make the wrappers, prepare the fillings, and learn how to fold and shape your own dumplings. We will make traditional Chinese pork & chive filling. (Unfortunately we cannot accommodate gluten sensitivities) Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a total beginner, Lani’s class is designed to be approachable, playful, and delicious. From there, we’ll move from the “kitchen” to the studio, where Jaime will guide you through a hand-building ceramic project. You’ll create your own dumpling plate and dipping dish, designed to be used and enjoyed for years to come. Your pieces will be glazed and fired at the studio, then a pick up location and date will be arranged approximately one month after the workshop. And then, of course, we eat! We’ll gather around the table to enjoy the dumplings we’ve made together, served alongside a fresh, farm-inspired salad on handmade ceramics from the studio. We’ll finish with all the delicious Hei Ma sauces to mix, match, and dip to your heart’s content. It’s a gathering that brings together farm life, food, clay, and the joy of making something by hand—from the dumpling in your hands to the plate beneath it.
