Aquidneck Island Rail with Trail: Community Info Session & Open House

Learn about the upcoming rail with trail project on Aquidneck Island and provide community input! The community is invited to hear exciting updates regarding the long-standing vision for a rail with trail on the west side of Aquidneck Island. This informational session and open house will kick-off the project. Over the course of the next year, the project will develop initial designs for a rail with trail running approximately 4.5 miles from Access Road in Middletown, along Burma Road to Stringham Road and the Melville area of Portsmouth. This event is the first of many opportunities for public engagement. Agenda: • Welcome and introduction • Brief presentation on project scope, goals, process, and next steps • Open House: ample opportunity to roam around the room to ask questions, share insight, and provide initial feedback Throughout the event: family-friendly art project! Join us in painting signs that will be displayed in the rail corridor announcing the future home of a rail with trail. The community is also invited to see the project site via train ride on November 1, from 12:30 - 2:30, beginning at 1 Alexander Road, Portsmouth. Please register here to secure a spot, as space on the train is limited. This event is hosted by Aquidneck Resilience, Bike Newport, Aquidneck Island Land Trust, Naval Station Newport, Green Street Associates, and engineering consultants from Pare Corporation and Horsely Witten Group.
