Free Kirtan Jam with The Sacred Center

An uplifting evening of group rhythm, yogic music-making, and nourishing community connection. An Evening with The Sacred Center & Friends free and open to all @ Westminster Unitarian Church 119 Kenyon Ave, East Greenwich, RI Kirtan Jam Circle 5:00-7:00 PM Optional Vegetarian Potluck dinner follows the kirtan. You are warmly invited to this welcoming, judgment-free gathering for anyone called to explore devotional sound together—through voice, rhythm, or instrument. We start with group percussion which is a great way to shake off and release old energy and arrive into the evening. Then we layer in voices and musical instruments to make a devotional soundscape for everyone to contribute to and bathe in! With gentle guidance we will share a handful of simple chants (primarily from the Bhakti Yoga tradition - mostly call and response singing) with chord sheets provided for anyone who comes with an instrument of their own as well as lyrics for those who are coming to simply chant with us. This gatering is the furthest thing from a performance...it is a spiritual practice from the Bhakti Yoga tradition adapted to be as inspiring and accessible as possible. As facilitators, we aspire to help create an experiential, inclusive and gracious space rooted in curiosity, connection, and fun, co-creating heart-felt, devotional, sacred music. All levels of ability are welcome to come and explore with us. Bring an instrument (or 2)—or simply your voice and open-hearted presence. Led by Greg Sabatino and Rev. Shelley Dungan and open to all. RSVP is helpful ~ [email protected] or register for free on The Sacred Center Eventbrite page. Drop ins are most welcomed also. We encourage you to stay and join in the vegetarian potluck and take the opportunity to be nourished by community, conversation and a healthy meal.
