Deepen your relationship with mortality by allowing Death to guide you in discovering powerful perspective shifts and greater peace in Life. What the heck is a Death Meditation? A death meditation typically functions like any other guided meditation, where someone leads a person/group to experience quiet contemplation of their internal landscape. As you might expect, the focus of a death meditation is in the name: Death. More specifically, contemplating how our own death and dying process may unfold. Participants will be guided through an intentional experience of discovering what their subconscious holds emotionally, spiritually, physically and relationally around their deaths. Death meditations are often offered by organizations or groups to help people connect with their own mortality before beginning to walk with others through their death and dying experiences. Think, hospice volunteers, death doulas, and other support-oriented roles at the end of life. We all know our minds can create any number of imaginable circumstances surrounding how we might leave this world. Death remains the most mysterious and feared experience among humans of all walks of life. Some cultures embrace death, others resist it. What relationship do you have with your mortality? How was it formed and shaped? The reality is, that the conditions of our lives today (relationships with family/larger community, our financial circumstances, things left "unfinished" etc.) impact how we feel about, plan for, and ultimately will experience the end of our lives. Sitting in quiet, internal meditation with our own mortality has the power to shift our perspectives in ways we didn't even realize we needed. It provides us the space to recognize how we are - or are not - living in alignment with how we hope to be, at the time death inevitably comes knocking at our doors. What will you discover? This event will be faciliated by Emily Barney, Reno-based Death, Birth & Postpartum Doula and Owner of Doula Purposes. She hosts groups and classes locally for the community to explore death and dying concepts together using an intuitive, trauma-informed approach that she hopes will lead people to experience deeper connection, clarity, and peace in their lives. There will be opportunities for collective and individual processing and sharing at the close of the event. Sharing is never mandatory. IMPORTANT NOTE: To respect the intimate nature of this event, it is important that we have a "closed container," meaning that once the event begins, participants arriving late won't be allowed to enter the space. Please plan accordingly to arrive between 4:45 - 5 PM. We will begin promptly.
