Ancestors Day: A special day of remembrance, honoring our ancestors through ceremony, culture, and powerful storytelling. Join the Pan African Cultural Community (PACC) for Ancestors Day – Siku ya Mababu, a special intergenerational celebration honoring the ancestors whose courage, sacrifice, wisdom, creativity, and determination continue to shape our families and communities. Through African tradition, ceremony, drumming, music, dance, prayer, storytelling, and living history, we will remember those who came before us while celebrating the legacy they have passed on to future generations. MORNING CEREMONY 10:00 AM (3455 Martin Luther King Dr.) Begin the day with a powerful community libation ceremony honoring our ancestors. The ceremony will feature African drumming, song, prayer, and the calling of ancestral names as we give thanks to our loved ones, elders, freedom fighters, community builders, and generations of ancestors who paved the way. Participants are encouraged to bring the name or photograph of an ancestor they would like to honor. AFTERNOON PROGRAM: ANCESTORS LIVE! 1:00 PM MLK Business & Cultural Center 3455 MLK Dr. San Antonio, TX 78220 Watch history come alive! Community members will portray notable Black historical figures and ancestors, dressing in character and sharing their stories through engaging first-person presentations. Meet freedom fighters, educators, artists, entrepreneurs, spiritual leaders, community builders, and visionaries whose lives helped shape Black history and culture. Guests are encouraged to wear African cultural attire, historical clothing, or clothing that celebrates their family and cultural heritage. BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY Ancestors Day is an opportunity for children, parents, grandparents, elders, and the entire community to come together to remember, learn, celebrate, and pass our history forward.
