Denver Heights: The Heart of the Eastside Documentary film tells the story of one of San Antonio's most storied Black neighborhoods Join us for a community screening of Denver Heights: The Heart of the Eastside — the story of one of San Antonio's most storied Black neighborhoods, told by the people who built it and lived there. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Program starts at 7:00, followed by a Q&A with the film's team. 📍 Beasley Brown Community Center, 225 N Swiss St, San Antonio, TX 78202 🎬 COMMUNITY SCREENING During segregation, it became a community that built its own schools, churches, businesses, institutions, and leadership networks. It was a place where Black families created opportunity, nurtured future leaders, supported one another, and helped shape the social and political life of San Antonio’s East Side. Through the voices of the people who lived it, Denver Heights: The Heart of the Eastside tells the story of a neighborhood that too often goes overlooked, even as its influence continues to be felt across the city. The film features firsthand reflections from community elders, historians, civic leaders, educators, and longtime residents, including • Mario Salas • Odie Davis III • Dr. Charles Gentry • Charles Williams • Gloria Ray • Ernest “Coach Q” Qadimasil • And more This film was produced by: Aundar Ma'at and directed by: Born Logic Allah, the founders of Melaneyes Media and was a passion project for executive producer: Frank Dunn who grew in the Denver Heights. Melaneyes Media is an independent film and education based in San Antonio, TX. They are the producers of Walk on the River: A Black History of the Alamo City, Walk on the River 2.0: The African Influence in San Antonio, TX and High Risk: Black Mothers Protecting Themselves and Their Babies. This screening is an opportunity to experience the film together, reflect on the history of Denver Heights, and take part in a conversation about what this neighborhood has meant — and continues to mean — to San Antonio.
