San Diego River Habitat Restoration

Join us to get outside, immerse yourself in nature, and make a positive impact for the San Diego River! Join a welcoming community of like-minded volunteers working to restore the beautiful lower course of the San Diego River, a hidden natural treasure right in the heart of the city! By removing invasive plant species, you’ll directly support the return of native pollinators and wildlife, improve water quality,  protect endangered species, and reduce wildlife and flood risk. Together, we will create a healthier, more accessible natural space for the entire community to enjoy. This is a huge effort and a great opportunity for those looking to stay active, gain hands-on experience in ecological fieldwork, make a meaningful difference with fellow nature lovers, and explore the beautiful riparian habitat! What to Expect: Many of these invasive plant species are small annuals that require either weed whacking or hand pulling, so be prepared to get dirty. Please wear a hat and sunscreen, along with long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy closed-toed shoes for protection. All necessary tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own gloves or safety glasses if preferred. Don't forget to bring plenty of drinking water and snacks to stay energized throughout the day. Who Would Be Perfect for the Team: We welcome individuals from all walks of life. Retired folks can use their time and experience to contribute to the environment, while students seeking hands-on experience in habitat restoration can gain valuable knowledge and skills. Families are also encouraged to participate, as our activities are a great way to bond and instill a sense of stewardship for the natural world in children.
