Square Circle: New Album Release Party

The original Square Circle lineup reunites for a new album release party—an evening of new music, old favorites, and a few surprises. **The original Square Circle lineup is back.** On December 11, Square Circle celebrates the release of a new album with a special live performance at Bread & Salt, the 45,000-square-foot gallery and experimental arts center in San Diego’s Barrio Logan. Square Circle began in San Diego around the turn of the millennium when four musicians from very different worlds — Todd A. Davidson on keyboards and vocoder, Paul C. on drums, Marcus B. on guitar and turntables, and Stick 3X on bass — discovered that putting all of those worlds together produced something none of them would have made separately. Vintage synthesizers, vocoders, turntables, real drums, bass and guitar became the raw materials for music that moves freely between electronic, rock, funk, hip-hop, experimental pop and whatever else happens to fit. There’s a little science lab, a little NASA, a little Sesame Street, a little Art of Noise, and the spirit of bands that treated synthesizers as instruments rather than decorations. The result has always been melodic, playful, unpredictable and very much a live band. Square Circle released *Say Hello to Square Circle* in 2001 and *Mankind* in 2005, earning San Diego Music Awards for Best Electronic in both years. Now, more than two decades after they first started making strange noises together, the original four members are back in the same room — with a new Square Circle album to celebrate. Expect new music, old favorites, a few surprises, and an evening that’s as much an experience as it is a concert. Beer & wine available for purchase.
